Survivor Support Network will provide
practical skills training such as resume workshops and interview skills and
training classes. Student volunteers will also serve as valuable community
liaisons between survivors and local employers.
Volunteers will educate employers about the unique challenges that
victims of domestic violence face. Volunteers
will also inform the employers of the support system in place to ensure that if
victims are given the opportunity for employment, their abuse-related problems
would be far less likely to arise in the future.
Student volunteers will assist the survivors in researching job
availability in the area.
• Financial Planning
Our student volunteers will provide
financial planning assistance to survivors of domestic violence.
They will help survivors create budgets and learn how to secure loans for
housing, school, cars, etc.
Graduate students in the School of
Social Work will provide counseling services under the supervision of licensed
counselors. Should a client need
psychiatric care and/or medication, the student volunteers will work to pair
clients with affordable, reliable psychiatrists in the area to provide further
mental health services.
Student volunteers from many
disciplines will provide tutorial sessions for the children of domestic violence
survivors to aid them in their school work.
[1] SSN will also explore the possibility of referring SSN clients to local workforce training centers to receive employment skills training.
