Sometime during my freshman year at Cornell, I met Rusty. He's a nice guy, but don't let that fool you into thinking he's boring. His page has a neato cartoon with a spear on it, which should be reason enough to go look at his page.
I'm not sure exactly when I met JP, but I think it was sometime before I moved into Risley, which puts him here in the chronology. JP drives a black/blue Saturn named Carbert, and bakes really yummy cookies.
When I was merely 18 years old, I moved into Risley Hall, a residential college for creative and performing arts. As I was moving in, this man with Robert Smith hair, wearing lots of black and eyeliner walks past my door, and introduces himself to me. This is how I met Bob. He's in England, these days being a scientist.
I can't remember how I met Mike Shappe. It may have been through his wife who I met in the SCA (Society of Creative Anachronism). I've even asked him, but he can't remember either. He's a bit surreal. Consider yourself warned.
Then there is Chris Manly. This mild mannered programmer-by-day turns into the wild-eyed Chester whenever he lets his inner self out. Chester has a tendency to pour some of the strongest white russians this side of the Mississippi. I met Chris in Risley when he was helping me assemble a screen on which to view RHPS (Rocky Horror Picture Show). I met Chester on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) where he dunked me in chocolate and covered me in powdered sugar. Then I worked with him, and he keeps tempting me to go back.
Next I met Beeeej, the Sexiest Man in Ithaca Radio. I met him first on IRC on #wvbr, which got renamed to #ithaca, where we still tend to hang out. Stop by and say "Hi!" Then I met him in person on the Ag Quad at Cornell where Chris arranged to have a bunch of people meet to play frisbee. His mother did not name him Beeeej, but I have trouble calling him the name she gave him.
The next day I met Beeeej's older brother Mark. We were all at an Ithaca Laker's game before the annual showing of fireworks. This was the first occurence of Fogelman sandwich on Anbinder. Mark now works with Public Communications, Inc. and it takes up a lot of his time. Though I can assure you, he's not a 'bot.
One day I was on IRC, and there was the out-spoken woman on #ithaca named Charisse. She fit in really well right from the start, and could make Mikey's comments seem like complete sequiturs. Check out Michelle's family's e-family alblum.
My housemate offered to let the local Star Trek group use our house as a place to meet the incoming crowd for a hike through Watkins Glen. One of the locals who was meeting someone at my place was Joe. I wish that I had met him when I first got to Ithaca, but then, again, when I first got there he would've scared me.
Another day I was on IRC (yes, I know, I spend a lot of time on IRC, but since my office isn't within a line of sight of my co-worker's office, I rely on chat to find important information, like "What's for lunch?" and "Where did you hide that file?") and Deltax had joined us. I checked out his web page where he had a picture. Then one day he mentioned that he was on his way to go work out. Amazingly, those were my plans, as well. So I met George first at the gym. A few weeks later, he dyed his hair blue, and I knew that this was a person not to lose touch of too quickly.
There must be some cosmic connection between me and Robert Smith hair, for shortly after I moved to Austin, I met Thomas (aka Samoht) whose hair and music tastes bend Cure-ward. There have been a considerable number of rumors about me and Samoht, and only our hair stylists know the truth.
When I moved to Texas, I needed a place to live. Luckily at the same time Barbara was also looking for a place to stay. Unfortunately our lease didn't start before my job did, but Barbara had the solution; she arranged for me to crash at her brother's girlfriend's place (along with 2 boarders and a great Dane). She was my bestest roommate ever. Her site is graphics-heavy, but they're good pictures.
If it seems strange to you that there's only one woman mentioned on this page, it's not because I'm a gynophobic geek tied to my computer, but rather it's because most of my female friends don't have web pages.
