Assemble-A-Panoply

If acquiring a hoplite outfit for yourself is your idea of a good time, you've come to the right page. We have painstakingly gathered information from a variety of sources to provide you with a greater immediate selection (we make no claims as to the currency of this page, as the Web, by nature, is dynamic; however, we will endeavor to keep this page as accurate as possible.)

If you know of an armourer we missed, please email us (email address is at page bottom) ASAP and we'll update the necessary information. Also, our scope is limited to armourers with an online presence, so if you know of any places without webpages that produce Greek wares, please let us know!

Name:

Albion Armourers

URL:

http://albionarmorers.com/armormain.htm (http://www.albionarmorers.com/)

Greek-based wares:

Bronze Corinthian Helmet (uncrested*) - $375   nice (IS1300)
Brass Corinthian Helmet (uncrested)
- $275 (w/crest - $330) (+$40 liner)
Bronze Corinthian Helmet (uncrested) - $375 (IS1301)

Manufactured/Custom Fit on 1301 only

Comments:

Although the pieces shown are manufactured, I wouldn't be ashamed to own them at all. The Corinthian helmet (IS1300) is especially well-formed, and the promise of a crest in the future--considering the relatively low price of $60 for a crest here--makes it a good choice in my opinion.

Name:

Blacksword Armoury

URL:

http://www.blacksword.com/greek.htm (http://www.blacksword.com)

Greek-based wares:

Brass Italo/Corinthian Helmet (crested) - $243
Iron Italo/Corinthian Helmet (crestless)
- $175
Steel Corinthian Helmet
- $175 (+$240 crest)
Brass Muscled Cuirass (front only!)
- $240
Brass Muscled Cuirass (front+backplate) - $323

Manufactured

Comments:

Least expensive source of armour that I have found. Manufacutred, but a wide variety to choose from and the lowest prices around.

Name:

By The Sword, Inc.

URL:

http://www.by-the-sword.com

Greek-based wares:

Brass Corinthian Helmet (crestless) - $225
Iron Corinthian Helmet (crestless)
- $175
Brass Muscled Cuirass
- $342

Manufactured

Comments:

I believe all of the Greco/Roman contents are manufactured. Items are similar to Blacksword's inventory, but the prices are a bit higher.

Name:

Darkheart Armoury

URL:

http://www.darkheartarmoury.com

Greek-based wares:

Brass Corinthian Helmet - $360 (w/crest - $450)
Bronze Corinthian Helmet - $420 (w/crest - $510)
Brass Muscled Cuirass - $330 (+$210 backplate)
Bronze Muscled Cuirass - $450 (+$390 backplate)

Custom Made

Comments:

Don't believe the example picture given on the website. The finished product is much, much, much nicer. I (Kevin Marshall) have a helmet from them w/red crest, and Kevin Hendryx's entire panoply is made through them. Great quality, just on the costly side.

Name:

Valentine Armouries

URL:

http://www.varmouries.com/

Greek-based wares:

Copper/Brass Muscled Cuirass - $360
Steel Muscled Cuirass - $300

Custom Made

Comments:

Decent pricing for a custom-made cuirass, but the lack of a bronze model is unfortunate.

Name:

White Rose Armoury

URL:

http://www.white-rose-armoury.co.uk/

Greek-based wares:

Brass, bronze or steel muscled cuirass - $545

Custom Made

Comments:

No examples provided, but everything is custom-made. Questionable product (muscled cuirasses are apparently a tough product to make), moderately priced .
