The Llano Uplift

A geologic map of the Llano Uplift.

The map can be better viewed with the Adobe Acrobat plug-in.

I finally got around to a preliminary discussion of the origin of the Llano Uplift

Granites in the Llano Uplift

A) Coarse-grained pink porphyritic granites (Town Mountain Granite) in large oval or dike-like bodies, (~30% of Llano Uplift, Johnson and others, 1976)
B) Fine to medium-grained pink or gray granites in irregular bodies (~16 % of Llano Uplift, Johnson and others, 1976)
Some information about the Town Mountain Granite (TMG).

Some images:

Deformed and undeformed granite from the Grape Creek Pluton

A boudinaged pegmatite from the Wolf Mountain Intrusion.

A garnet-quartz symplectite formed in a pegmatite related to the Wolf Mountain Intrusion. I suspect it has petrological significance of some kind, and I'd appreciate any input. I've gotten a report that similar fabrics occur in southern Alaska within low-P pegmatites that intrude the Chugach Metamorphic Complex.
