Have you ever wondered why Enchanted Rock isn't a granite quarry or a theme park like "Deer World" or "Fiesta Granite"?

Yes, the quarry thing was a possibility, and no, Enchanted Rock hasn't always been a state park. In the late Seventies, the Nature Conservancy of Texas bought the land from a private owner (who I believe was kind enough to give them a nice price). The Nature Conservancy transferred the land to the state of Texas for use as a park (a.k.a. state natural area) in 1984. If there are ever going to be any more parks in the Texas Hill Country, it will be the Nature Conservancy that makes them possible. (LCRA could prove me wrong on that, and I hope they do but I'm not holding my breath).
