The feature cutting across the rock is an aplite dike. A number of these occur in the granite on Enchanted Rock. "Aplite" is just a fancy geology word for a fine-grained granite with a sugary texture and not much biotite. "Dike" is used for a planar crack in rock, typically vertical or near vertical, into which molten rock (magma) has been injected. |
