Mic Kaczmarczik
I work in the Unix
Services group within UT Austin's
Information Technology Services organization.
I manage Unix systems,
run information services, and provide consulting on these facilities.
I spend a lot of my time on information services and electronic mail.
I have been installing successive generations of Web servers and
related software on UT Austin Web
Central since 1993. I was around for the Internet Gopher before that, and WAIS before even that.
I also help operate our mailing list and
Webmail
services.
In between all of the above, I perform system administration tasks on
our Unix systems, provide appointment consulting on the Unix
expert desk of the ITS Help
Desk, act as one of the postmasters for our Unix systems, and
generally try to help make things go.
My last name is pronounced kaz-MAR-zik.
- Yes, it's Polish.
- Just take out the C's.
- I had no trouble learning to spell it.
I received a BS in Mathematics at the University of Chicago in 1985. I
have many fond memories of the Point, Powell's Bookstore, Giordano's,
the Museum of Science and
Industry, the brief but glorious career of John T. Buse and the
Fixations, Jimmy's, and the revolving chicken door at Harold's Chicken Shack.
