Warpaint

Warpaint's grin.Warpaint (registered as Can-D Cracker Jack) was six months old when we acquired him in 1997 (born 29 April 1997). He loves to hike. The sight of a halter or the sound of the words "walk" or "out" sends him rushing to the gate where he waits to be haltered. He does not make decisions as quickly as Glacier, but the two of them are terrific hiking companions. When they play "King of the Mountain" on a sand pile, Warpaint normally dominates Glacier, but Glacier is the guardian of everyone, including Warpaint.

Warpaint's phobia is his feet. He kushes and tries to cover his feet with his body when it is time to trim toenails. In contrast, if he has a thorn in his foot, he readily cooperates to let us remove it. He had an eye injury that required treatment three times a day for a couple of weeks. I would clip his halter to the top of the fence to stabilize his head and have both hands free to treat his eye. After a few days, he would go put his chin on the fence (without being haltered) and hold it there voluntarily while I treated his eye. He can be very cooperative when he thinks it is a good idea!

His fleece is mostly guard hair and not good for fashion wear. However, it makes wonderful rugs - strong and durable.

If you want someone to enthusiastically set a fast pace on a hike, put Warpaint in the lead position. His pleasure at hiking is contagious.
