Lawrence Davenport
The original Davenport Sampler, captioned Ozymandias Lives, was written in response to a revalation that the only reason some heroes don't fail is because
we don't put them in a position to. It opened with this nonsensical verse:
- In the beginning, after god had created the heaven and earth,
- he bacame angry and shook his fist at his wife. It so happened
- that she wasn't looking and god has not spoken sense. His wife
- thinks he is mute.
The Sampler, captioned Mommy's Don't Die was devoted to a single parent by the name of Sarah Fisher. Sarah of course did die.
Between the Buses is the only sequal in the Sampler series. In it Lawrence explores disquietning themes of the human condition and how we respond to them. This is the medium, says Lawrence. So what is the message. It opens:
- Mrs. Jones, can Johnny come out to play?
- Well, George, you know Johnny has no arms or legs.
- Thats ok, we just want to use him for third base.
When Lawrence Davenport began producing the Sampler, it was a delightful adventure in perspective with only a small following of undines and would-be explorers. After some time, Lawrence discovered the little things. The Sampler has no chapters or volumes. The Sampler is quite simply what it is. Enjoy it. I do.
