Event of the Week:
"The History of the Rochdale Cooperative" by Ronald Kumon, as featured
in the 26 Mar issue of College Houses INK. A short description:
The cooperative founded in Rochdale, England in
1844 is widely recognized as the first cooperative
that was successful over a long period of time.
This article is a short account of the plight of
the people of Rochdale and their efforts to give
birth to a cooperative store.
This article is actually the third in a series of six collectively
titled "Co-op Roots: A Series of Short Essays on the Early Cooperative
Movement." The full series is now available on the web at
and includes references
and hyperlinks not published in the print version. Check it out today!
