Homework

Homework is assigned almost every week, and it must be turned in at the beginning of the class session when it's due. It is assigned in the syllabus and is due every Friday. Homework is graded on a 3-point scale, '3' being the highest grade given, and '1' the lowest. Late homework or homework not turned in is given a grade of '0'. No homework will be accepted late except (a) for a very good reason, like a documented serious illness, and then only when (b) you have notified me or one of the TA's in advance of your absence. (Call 471-1701 or 471-6932 and leave a message if you canít get me.)

Make-ups and Late Work

No make-up exams will be given. No homework will be accepted late.

Grading

There will be three scheduled in-class examinations and up to two short unannounced tests. For your final grade each of the three in-class exams will count 25% as will the homework. Pop quizzes and class participation willl decide marginal cases ó the difference between an A and a B, a B and a C, and so on. However, if you miss handing in two homework assignments the highest final grade you can get is a B (no matter what your average otherwise is), and if you miss three homework assignments the highest you can get is a C, four a D. In other words: Donít Miss a Homework!

Attendance

This class is too large to make attendance mandatory. However, I test mostly over what I discuss in class, not what is in the text. Also, class participation will help me decide borderline cases when assigning the final course grade.

Also, do not make a practice of wandering into class late and leaving class early. Do not come to class to drop off your homework and then leave. If any of this becomes a problem in this class, I will start taking attendance, and you will be penalized in your final grade for missing class.

Cheating

Don't cheat. I take cheating very seriously and you will be punished if caught. It isnít worth it.
