I grew up mostly in Biloxi, Mississippi. I've also lived on Guam and in France.

photography

You can see some of my photos in my gallery.

My camera collection grew so large that I set up a separate site for it, Instamatic Central. As the name says, it deals mainly with 126-format cameras, but also includes some interesting and unusual cameras of other formats.

tv and movies

Favorite TV shows: "ReBoot" and "Deep Space Nine." I also like British comedies and "Ballykissangel."

Favorite movies: Probably "2001: A Space Odyssey." I thought "Contact" was incredible. I also liked "Shipwrecked." Two of the worst movies I've ever seen were "Celtic Pride" and "Nightfall." I only rented "Celtic Pride" to see what Will Lyman looked like; "Nightfall" can only be described as appalling, which was really disappointing since the novel was outstanding. I'm looking for a movie called "Noon Sunday" that was filmed entirely on Guam (I think). I don't know much about it except that it was made in 1975 and one of the actors was Mark Lenard, who played Spock's father in the first two "Star Trek" series. If you've seen this movie I'd be interested in hearing from you.

Favorite actresses: Michelle Forbes and Mary Chris Wall.

Favorite narrator: Richard Kiley, followed closely by Will Lyman, Peter Thomas and Don Wescott.

music

My favorite composer is Jacques Duphly (1715-89).

I also like guitar music, such as that recorded by Hector Ivan Garcia. I also started listening to Bola Sete.

In 1983 I built a small clavichord from a kit by Zuckermann Harpsichords. It has a mahogany case, a range of four octaves, C/E -- c''', and a boxwood and ebony keyboard. Then in 1986 I built a small harpsichord (virginal) from a kit by Hubbard Harpsichords, with a range of C -- c'''. I also have a tabor pipe made of apple wood.

I'm in the process of building a serinette, a miniature barrel organ. It will have 10 metal pipes and play 8 different tunes. Serinettes were invented in France around 1730 and were still being made, virtually unchanged, in 1905. Here is a picture of one in the Paris Conservatory. Here is a sound clip of an antique serinette. I'll post more information as it progresses. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who owns or has repaired one of these.

etc.

Favorite authors: Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Charles Dickens, Maupassant.

I'm also interested in astronomy. About two years ago I bought a Meade 6" Dobsonian telescope that I really like. I need some higher-power eyepieces, though, to give better views of the planets.

I've made several other websites. Here is one I made for the TV show "ReBoot," and one I made for Stephanie's daughter Brianna. Check out the site I made for my friend Carol's daughter Mary, and the one I made for Sonia McCullough's daughter DeeDee.
