One gets the strong impression that the Permalite was created when Imperial decided to add electronic flash capability to one of its existing cameras. Except for the electrical connections, the flash unit is completely separate from the camera itself, and is attached to it only by the shared faceplate. Stickers on the back of the camera give basic picture-taking hints, such as "Advance film to full stop" and "Read instruction book thoroughly."
