The color of the column bars reflects the months of the year, January through December, with winter months in blue, the breeding months April through July in green, March is red, and the the summer/fall months are orange. The height of each monthly bar shows the relative frequency of records for the given bird in that month.
For example, the Yellow-billed Cuckoo arrives late, in April; is conspicuous, by virtue of its call; and leaves in late summer. The Ash-throated Flycatcher arrives and leaves earlier. Bobwhites are always around, but are not always in evidence. They are most likely to make their presence known in the summer months. For some reason, they were not observed in April or November this past year.
The data are based on 72 separate records made over the past twelve months, and 33 of these involved two-day periods, with an opportunity to observe night birds. Our activity during these visits was not exclusively devoted to birdwatching. Thus more conspicuous birds, especially distinctively vocal species, were more likely to be recorded.
