Figure 18-5. Summary of population dynamics and relative abundance data for Heliconius populations at Sirena, Corcovado Park, Costa Rica. The X axis represents the duration of the study,1100 days between July 1979 and June 1982. Estimates were made at 20-day intervals. Panels summarize the relative abundance and population estimates of the eight resident species.
The lower portion of each panel shows first the Log10 of the total of individuals seen or known alive during a period (vertical line) and the Manly-Parr estimate of total numbers (solid circle). Since males and females differ in recapture rates, separate estimates were carried out for the sexes, then summed.
The upper part of each of these same panels shows the relative abundance of species, obtained by dividing the number of different individuals actually caught in a period by the total of all Heliconius caught in the period.
