About GECThe Graduate Engineering Council (GEC) became an official University of Texas at Austin student organization in 1970 under the leadership of Mr. William Evans, a Petroleum Engineering graduate student. Although the GEC has been lead by many student leaders during the last 30 years, the main goal of supporting and improving the graduate engineering experience is unchanged. The primary purpose of the GEC is to represent the interests of the graduate eng ineers at The University of Texas at Austin. The GEC fulfills this purpose, serving as a liaison between the Office of the Dean of Engineering, the Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies and graduate engineers in the College of Engineering. The GEC also engages in appropriate activities promoting the general welfare of graduate engineers at The University of Texas at Austin. The GEC sponsors events such as the Graduate School Orientation Day, Income Tax Information Session, Health Benefits Information Session, Orientation Picnic for New Students and Student Research Conference and Seminar Series. Our Council also participates in events promoting graduate studies in the engineering fields including the Graduate School Information Panel for Undergraduates.
