Language and Cognition
The goal of this course is to examine ethnographic and theoretical approaches to understanding relationships between language, culture and cognition. We read a range of materials, including topics such as metaphor, expert-novice interaction, the role of technologies, visual perception, cultural organization of space, linguistic relativity hypothesis, aphasia studies, distributed cognition, emotion, gesture and others.
