Creative Research Laboratory is a site for contemporary art and design, providing a year-round schedule of exhibitions and community programming by students and faculty in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin.

Located at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. in Austin, Texas, Creative Research Laboratory fosters collaboration among students, faculty, visiting artists, alumni, and the broader community to provide innovative educational experiences.






Jade Walker – Director

Home grown in Florida, Jade Walker graduated with a BFA from the University of Florida. Prior to entering graduate school, Walker held the position of venue coordinator at the Baughman Center, a division of the UF Performing Arts Center. She received her MFA from The University of Texas at Austin in the area of sculpture. After graduate school, she served the Austin Museum of Art as an instructor and an administrator in The Art School at the Austin Museum of Art, Laguna Gloria. She currently holds the position of Director of the Creative Research Laboratory, Curator of the Courtyard Gallery at AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center, as well as Lecturer for the Department of Art and Art History in the College of Fine Arts.

Her work has been exhibited regionally at the Conduit Gallery in Dallas, Arthouse in Austin, and upcoming exhibitions include solo exhibitions at Austin Museum of Art (New Works) and Domy Book Store. Her work has also been exhibited internationally in Taiwan, where she also completed an artist residency and developed and implemented an arts outreach program between children in Hsinchu, Taiwan and Austin, Texas.

Xochi Solis – Assistant Director

Born in Austin, TX.

Solis received her B.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005. In the course of her academic work she studied abroad in both Tuscany and Mexico City, a city she continues to visit often. Solis’s work has been exhibited most recently in the current edition of the New Art in Austin: 20 to Watch exhibition at the Austin Museum of Art and Mexic-Arte Museum's annual Young Latino Art exhibition. She has been an active member of the city’s visual arts community since graduation, working with both commercial and non-profit art institutions. Prior to her most recent position as the Executive Director of the 2009 Texas Biennial, she served as the Gallery Director of Volitant Gallery. In addition to managing the CRL space, she will continue on as a participating member of MASS Gallery, an artist-run project space in East Austin.

Marc Silva – Preparator

Before becoming the preparator for Creative Research Laboratory, Marc Silva served as gallery manager for The ArtSpace, ACA Gallery, and Gallery Lombardi in Austin. He is also a painter and has exhibited his work in Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas.
