Ideas of Mountains
A juried group exhibition emphasizing wild, large-scale experimentation in site-specific installations featuring both artists living and working in Austin, as well as students and alumni of the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin
This January 2010, the Creative Research Laboratory presents a juried group exhibition entitled Ideas of Mountains. Composed of 11 site-specific projects, Ideas of Mountains explores the unique atmosphere of the CRL as a malleable artist space and incubator for the creative process. Featuring both artists living and working in Austin, as well as students and alumni of the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas, this exhibition encourages a dialogue amongst a greater creative community. Each artist or collective will consider the gallery as an arena for wild experimentation across a multitude of media. This broad and open platform is a rare opportunity for artists to reach beyond the normal scope of art making and investigate the possibility of creating something epic.

In addition to our opening reception, we invite the public to participate in a conversation with the Ideas of Mountains artists. Please join us Thursday, January 28 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Creative Research Laboratory for an informal discussion reflecting upon the process of working site-specifically as compared to individual artist’s studio practice.
The Creative Research Laboratory (CRL) presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions, featuring work by students and faculty at The University of Texas at Austin. The CRL is located in East Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, inside Flatbed World Headquarters. There is ample free parking and bus service available on Capitol Metro's Route 18. The activities of the Department of Art and Art History and the Creative Research Laboratory are free and open to the public.
