IV Stand, Fall 2006
balsa foam model and paint

The project came out of a desire to redesign the current hospital IV stand for surgery patients with recuperation and support in mind. Mobility is key to recuperation, and I felt the current design did little to encourage and support the ambulant patient. My goals were to make the stand feel and look more supportive by employing color, form and function. With this appendage to the hospital IV stand I am accommodating three body positions along the path to recovery, from the most compromised, slouched posture to fully upright and recovered.
