2006 UT SENIOR DESIGN SHOW

Works by 22 Graduating Seniors in Design

May 6 - May 27, 2006

2006 UT Design Senior Show postcard

You're invited to the only place where you'll be able to eat your words, learn Helvetica jokes, and annoy 22 design seniors with the question: "What is design?" (Or even better, "do you have a job yet?")

There is no simple answer to the question of "What is design?"-- There is the idealists' response: design solves problems and makes people's lives better. There is the cynical retort: we make things look pretty. And then there is the more accurate, more complicated, and far lengthier explanation that involves processes of working, iterations of ideas, the melding of form + content, and the concise presentation of projects. But if you really want to go into all THAT, come talk to us in person at the opening. (And before you ask us "What kind of design?"-- Our program is "interdisciplinary," so we've done a little bit of everything from graphic to products to environments to interactive multimedia... and we've each had to figure out for ourselves what comes next.)

"So, seriously, what is design?" Ask 22 designers, and you're likely to get 22 different answers. But the core of the group's response should be of the same spirit because we've been through Design Boot Camp together for the past 3 years. We've been straining our eyes in front of computer screens, ruining our postures hunched over X-Acto blades, and mastering daunting machines the likes of letterpresses, vacuum formers, and guillotines... so come to the opening, and let us show you some cool work. While you're at it, enjoy our ice sculpture, choose a limited edition collectible button to take home, and give us jobs so that we can keep doing this thing called design.

Heart,
Angela Pan, Angela Turner, Caren Lewis, Casey Morse, Christina Tran, Cindy Chang, Elana Farley, Gena Fishbeck, Hunter Thomas, Joyce Lee, Julianna Budding, Kelly Green, Ksenija Kuzmina, Laura Janisch, Leslie Lewis, Maura Murnane, Mike Lozano, Paul DeVay, Paula Ring, Ryan Willis, Rick Kocian, & Samantha Lipman
