My paintings are the results of a layered process that traverses divergent artistic practices. Installations and performance acts are my sources, created in a manner that can sometimes be likened to play, sometimes to dance, and at other times to the labors of work and ritual.

In recent works, I have attempted to extract the potential allusion and associations that can be created with the banal. My use of mundane and domestic objects reflects a desire to reconfigure and investigate the associative potential of what is close at hand. Allusions to personal experience, to family, to relationships and to history do not reside necessarily only in these familiar repetitive forms, but also in the immaterial: the movement, color and light of their depiction. The large scale of the work is intended to facilitate a sense of immersion in the composition and heighten spatial experience.

The paintings are approximations of subjective states of being; they are attempts to represent emotional experience using physical metaphors. I have sought parameters for my work that demand a meticulousness and attentiveness in process, with the hopes that the culmination of my efforts will be works that reflect the rhythms of their making.
