Master of Fine Arts Thesis Exhibition, Part 2

April 15 - 29, 2006

Opening with a reception on Saturday, April 15, the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin presents the second of two exhibitions showcasing the work of its artists and designers completing their Master of Fine Arts degrees. MFA2, which runs through April 29, features work by Eric Benson, Thuy-Van Vu, Nathan Spondike, Jared Steffensen and Brant Watson.

The Department of Art and Art History is one of the largest and most diverse art departments in the country, with 62 faculty members, 673 undergraduates and 161 graduate students. The MFA program in Studio Art at UT Austin is ranked twelfth among 572 rated liberal arts universities in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Painting is ranked third, and Printmaking is ranked sixth. The MFA Program in Studio Art is an intense and challenging 3-year program. Students work closely with faculty and consult with distinguished visiting artists and critics as they investigate contemporary art issues, build conceptual and technical skills, and develop independent creative work. In the two-year MFA program in Design, students respond to cultural, socio/economic, material, political, geographic and temporal environments to develop a design process and methodology with applications across a range of disciplines, including graphic design, product/industrial design, film/animation, and architecture.

The Creative Research Laboratory is a component of the University of Texas at Austin College of Fine Arts in the Department of Art and Art History. It serves as a flexible interdisciplinary educational environment, advancing professional practices in Studio Art, Art History, Design, Visual Art Studies and Art Education. As a creative incubator, it is designed to facilitate collaboration between artists and scholars and connect with diverse communities at large. Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions of work by students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, and facilitates workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars and collaborations. Creative Research Lab is located in East Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, inside Flatbed World Headquarters. There is ample free parking and bus service available on Capitol Metro's route 18. The activities of the Department of Art and Art History and the Creative Research Laboratory are free and open to the public.
