Computer numerically controlled fabrication has permitted design to
transition seamlessly from product development, thru prototyping, and into
fabrication. In this regard, systems of production are able to facilitate
the manufacture of either repetitive elements or complex forms. Hoping to
capitalize on this capability, and as an extension of Modernism's early
premise that design should be affordable and accessible, JIGSAW's designs
employ digital fabrication in order to respond to the need for inexpensive
and transportable furniture among today's increasingly nomadic younger
population. All designs are inscribed within a single 4'x8' sheet of plywood,
require no additional fasteners, permit a degree of customization [veneer
species, grade, and surface finish], and minimize waste.
