Train no. 7, 2006
charcoal and house paint on birch veneer

The coal trains that cut through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado fascinate
me immensely. Long, cold, steel cars wind around mountainsides and begin to
become a part of the environment in a sad and destructive sort of way. It's
as if the mountains are being slowly and discretely constricted. This
project began through photography of my own, from a recent trip to Colorado,
and grew into several large charcoal drawings.
