An Inhabitable Landscape, 2006
mixed media
approx. 4' x 8' x 4'
Within the 4' x 8' x 4' space is a sculpture of baled cardboard. The top
surface is covered with rounds of fabric. Together this will create an
inhabitable space, some sort of furniture, perhaps a series of benches as
the shape of the body, resting, sitting, reclining, informs the way the
cardboard is configured. The materials themselves are a manipulation of the
"grid" concept. The cardboard's previous use was a box, holding various
food items, and was en route to becoming a large 3 1/2' x 5' bale; to then
be recycled into more standard cardboard boxes. The fabrics' previous use
were bedsheets, designed around the conventional size of a mattress.
