On Tuesday, December 6, from 6 - 10 p.m., we will showcase videos made by graduate and undergraduate students from the Department of Art History from the past years. The faculty tapped into their vast archives of star student work and the selections are stellar. This is a rare opportunity for the CRL fans to catch up with the best student video art made at UT. We also lined up artsy bands to take over the parking lot. All bands are associated with the Department of Art and Art History: 'artsy' is guaranteed.

On Thursday, December 8 beginning at 8 p.m., artist Rachel Martin puts together an evening of performance art by transmedia students from the Department of Art and Art History. The issues raised here involve gender, age, race, space age and everything else you are still afraid to ask. This spectacular event starts at 8 p.m. and is sure not to be missed!

On Saturday, December 10, from 10 a.m. - 10 p.m., the CRL presents Drawing Across Disciplines, a continuation of a research program started in 2003. We asked "What is drawing? Why study it? Why teach it?" and exhibited students' work from various disciplines across campus produced in different situations, examining the utility of drawing. Last year the CRL set up an interdisciplinary cross pollination over a compressed period of time, an all- inclusive creative marathon. The participants went wild and in 24 hours turned the gallery into an art wonderland.

This year, the Creative Research Laboratory orchestrates the 12-hour marathon again. This activity starts on Saturday, December 10, from 10 a.m. till 10 p.m.  Come early and stay late, bring your friends and family. You can draw, collage, paint, make puppets and costumes, lift weights and hula-hoop. Sing songs and listen to DJs during the day and Totally Wreck bands at night. We also have lots of washable paint and tools available, so kids, hobby art folks and the general public are very welcome!

The activities of the Department of Art and Art History and the Creative Research Laboratory are free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to participate or just observe the process. Creative Research Laboratory is located in East Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, inside Flatbed World Headquarters. There is ample free parking and bus service available on Capitol Metro's route 18. You can always bike.

The Creative Research Laboratory is a component of the University of Texas at Austin College of Fine Arts in the Department of Art and Art History.  It serves as a flexible interdisciplinary educational environment advancing professional practices in Studio Art, Art History, Design, Visual Art Studies and Art Education.  As a creative incubator, it is designed to facilitate collaboration between artists and scholars and connect with diverse communities at large.
