Please also visit the collaborative project by Ledia Carroll, a Design graduate student and Leah Davis, an Architecture Masters student. Their piece creates a path through the center of the Winship Fountain, at Winship bus circle in front of the Theater Building on the UT campus.

2005 Master of Fine Arts
Thesis Exhibition

April 9 - 30, 2005

Opening with a reception on Friday, April 8, the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas presents two exhibitions showcasing the work of its artists and designers completing their Master of Fine Arts degrees. Plots and Schemes are two parallel exhibitions; Plots at the Creative Research Lab, and Schemes at the AMLI Downtown building.

Extending through April 30, Plots at the CRL features the work Christy Black, Jason Buchanan, Ledia Carroll, Barna Kantor, Daniel Lievens, Jennifer Little, Eduardo Munoz, Jaladhi Pujara, Beatrice Thomas, Eric Tomberlin and Eric Zimmerman, with work in sculptural installation, printmaking, painting, drawing and photography. Schemes at the AMLI features the work of Meggie Chou, Ward Evans, Lynn Richardson, Mark Schatz, Karen Skloss and Jade Walker, with work in sculpture, painting and video.

The Department of Art and Art History is one of the largest and most diverse art departments in the country, with 62 faculty members, 673 undergraduates and 161 graduate students. The MFA Program in Studio Art at UT Austin is ranked twelfth among the 572 rated liberal arts universities in the country by U.S. News and World Report. The painting program is ranked third and printmaking is ranked sixth. The MFA program in Studio Art is an intense and challenging 3-year program. Students work closely with faculty and consult with distinguished visiting artists and critics as they investigate contemporary art issues, build conceptual and technical skills, and develop independent creative work. In the two-year MFA program in Design, students respond to cultural, socio/economic, material, political, geographic and temporal environments to develop a design process and methodology with applications across a range of disciplines, including graphic design, product/industrial design, film/animation, and architecture.

Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions of work by students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, and also facilitates workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars and collaborations. Creative Research Laboratory is located in East Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, inside Flatbed World Headquarters. There is ample free parking and bus service available on Capitol Metro's route 18. The activities of the Department of Art and Art History and the Creative Research Laboratory are free and open to the public.
