August 7 - August 28 at
Creative Research Laboratory
Opening Saturday, August 7, Creative Research
Laboratory presents in::formation, introducing work by
seven Master of Fine Arts candidates, curated by four
graduate students, all from the Department of Art and Art
History at the University of Texas at Austin. The opening
reception will take place from 6 to 9 pm at the Lab,
located at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
in::formation is the second of two summer exhibitions
organized collaboratively by students in the Department of
Art and Art History. The artists featured in in::formation
are Ledia Carroll, Meggie Chou, Barna Kantor, Erick
Michaud, Jared Steffenson, Michael Osborne, Thuy-Van
Vu, and Eric Zimmerman. The exhibition is organized by
Amanda Douberley, Heather Mathews, Marie-Adele
Moniot, and Chelsea Weathers.
The artists in this exhibition challenge our assumptions
about everyday life. In sculpture and video works some
explore mundane experiences, from the seemingly banal
matter of the weather to intimate rituals performed only
behind closed doors, engaging the viewer both physically
and intellectually. Other artists reconfigure aspects of our
ordinary environment in drawings and photographs,
through changes in scale and the meticulous repetition of
key components, encouraging the formation of mutable
understandings of space and self.
A catalogue of essays and interviews will accompany the
exhibition.
Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round
schedule of exhibitions of work by students and faculty at
the University of Texas at Austin and also facilitates
workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars and
collaborations.
