As an industrial designer, I have always found design a creative activity, a challenging one that can create products that we might begin to view as friends. Just as when two people meet and find that they communicate and understand each other well, a person can be attracted to the object, can understand how to use the object, and might wish to maintain some sort of relationship with the object in his or her life.

In this exhibition, by showing my projects, I try to present how a new design of a product can be created from a designer’s personal experience, collaboration with other disciplines, and conceptual thinking. Meanwhile, I present the process of industrial design by dividing it into four stages: initiation, development, refinement and finalization.

Moreover, I use metaphor as a method for inspiring design. I believe an existing thing (the metaphor) will be a common language between people (the users) and products, to help users better understand and communicate with products. You will see this evident in some of the projects exhibited. But always, I seek to improve the quality of life for the people who encounter these objects, hoping that these things will serve as good friends in their lives.
