RECEPTION: Saturday, May 8, 6 - 8 pm
Gallery Hours: Tues.-Sat., 12-5 pm

On Saturday, May 8, Creative Research Laboratory will present the work of some of the most diverse student designers in Austin. SENIOR DESIGN SHOW 2004 is a compilation of several unique projects that have been developed over the past three years by the eighteen design seniors from the University of Texas Design Division.

This exhibition represents a wide range of media, from print design to multimedia, fashion, environmental, product, book, typographic, photographic, and spatial design. The designers are all very different with unique interests and areas of research. All of the students will be receiving at least a B.F.A. in Design this spring, while some of them will go on to seek a double major.
A public opening reception with the artists will take place Saturday, May 8, from 6-8 pm.

Among the work in the exhibition, “Dysposia”, by Cadenza Wang, is a set of disposable clothing that questions the quality of cheaply made clothing from specific clothing stores. Alaina Chambers will be presenting blind-embossed three-dimensional typography, while Ebony Riley, Colin Hobbs, and Jonathan will present the “Ebcothian” chair. Don’t forget to checkout Dustin Kilgore’s “Krispy Khrists and Karma Krunch cereal” or Joanna Wells’ “Nut Case Study.

The designers featured in the exhibition are Karessa Bowens, Alaina Chambers, Erica Chan, Jonathan Coen, Matt Crawford, Malia Davis, Erin Dillow, Allison Duke, Zach Griffith, Colin Hobbs, Dustin Kilgore, Vu Le, Liv Pederson, Harsh Patel, Cameron Petri, Ebony Riley, Cadenza Wang, and Joanna Wells.

The Design Division within the Department of Art and Art History is a small program dedicated to collaborative initiatives between design disciplines found across the university campus. Design students are taught to observe and respond to the cultural, socio-economic, political, material, geographic and temporal environment that surrounds them. They also engage in exploration of topics such as philosophy, psychology, sociology, film, research, and design criticism. Within the curriculum there are relationships made between Design and the School of Architecture, Design and the Business School, and the Land Arts of the American West program, a collaborative program between the University of New Mexico and the University of Texas Design students.

This comprehensive education allows the practicing designers to navigate through the various fields of design. Graduates of the Design program will function as graphic designers, product/industrial designers, film/animation/web designers, fashion designers, and set designers.
