Dimensional Typography
Fall 2003
The purpose of this project was to examine the role of dimensional
typography and then create a 26-character
three-dimensional typeface. I decided to create a typeface
out of found objects. Scouring Austin I looked over parking
lots, sidewalks, driveways, and any large area of concrete that
had cracks resembling letters of the alphabet. I then created
a mold of the crack and, once dry, was able to pull the mold off
bringing with it dirt, grass, and trash from the crack that, in
part, helped to create each letter.
