As a designer of space and objects I realize the important
relationships that people can have with their environments. I
find myself attached to places and objects from my past and
am intrigued by how past places and objects live in memories.
Since it is common to have meaningful connections to places
and objects it is my mission to foster this connection between
my designs and the user. I strive to celebrate and honor
memories, for they truly make up who we are as individuals
and as a community.
The design methodology I have developed involves using
autobiographical memories for a design generation point. My
hope is that, through my design process, the final place or
object can achieve several goals.
1 To spark a memory or "feelings of familiarity" for the user.
2 To have the user create, mark, record and/or make their own
memories with the place or object.
3 To design and make high-quality objects and space that
are cherished and treasured by the user.
I believe that, for designs to be meaningful, a designer must be
consciously aware of the impact designers have on our built
environments and the impact built environments have on the
community.
