Opening Saturday, April 17, Creative Research Laboratory presents
the second of two exhibitions showcasing the work of artists and designers completing their Master of Fine Arts degrees from the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin. An opening reception will take place Saturday, April 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. A talk with the artists and designers will take place Saturday, April 24, at 2 p.m. The exhibition closes May 1.
Among the highlights of MFA 2 are an installation by Tanya Eakins of a life-size domestic environment that blurs the boundaries of life and fiction; an interactive wall sculpture by Leona Scull-Hons; figurative ceramic sculptures by Holly Fischer; and the intimate, puzzle-like paintings of Nina Rizzo. In a separate gallery are four installations by graduating designers Katherine Bash, Amanda McCoy, Xochitl Paredes, and Shelley Pecha, with work ranging from video sculpture to book art to product design.
Located at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. in Austin, Texas, Creative Research Laboratory offers a full schedule of exhibitions and programs in contemporary art and design, providing a year-round forum for interaction between the larger community and artists, designers, and educators at the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin.
The Department of Art and Art History is one of the largest and most diverse art departments in the country, with 62 faculty members, 673 undergraduates and 161 graduate students. The MFA program in Studio Art is an intense and challenging 3-year program. Students work closely with faculty and consult with distinguished visiting artists and critics as they investigate contemporary art issues, build conceptual and technical skills, and develop independent creative work.
In the two-year MFA program in Design, students respond to cultural, socio/economic, material, political, geographic and temporal environments to develop a design process and methodology with applications across a range of disciplines, including graphic design, product/industrial design, film/animation, and architecture.
