The Department of Art and Art History is one of the largest and most
diverse art departments in the country, with 62 faculty members, 673
undergraduates and 161 graduate students. The MFA program in Studio
Art is an intense and challenging 3-year program. Students work closely
with faculty and consult with distinguished visiting artists and critics
as they investigate contemporary art issues, build conceptual and technical
skills, and develop independent creative work.
In the two-year MFA program in Design, students respond to cultural,
socio/economic, material, political, geographic and temporal environments
to develop a design process and methodology with applications across
a range of disciplines, including graphic design, product/industrial
design, film/animation, and architecture.
