SENIOR STUDIO EXHIBITION
2004
department of art and art history
the university of texas at austin
february 26-March 20, 2004
at creative research laboratory

On Thursday, February 26, Creative Research Laboratory will present the work of some of the best and brightest young visual artists in Austin. “Senior Studio Exhibition 2004” is a juried exhibition introducing work by twenty-eight undergraduate artists in the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Austin.
The exhibition represents a full range of media, from ceramic and metal sculpture to installation, jewelry, painting, prints, photographs, and video. Students selected for the exhibition are finishing their BA and BFA programs in Studio Art this spring and summer.
A public opening reception with the artists will take place Thursday, February 26, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Among the work in the exhibition, “The Bench,” by Dane Larson, is a sixteen-foot-long table laden with objects and contraptions suggesting homemade bomb production or an Ikea kit gone wrong. Lindsey Butts’ mixed-media installation, “The Fitcher's Bird,” explores elements of a Grimm's fairy tale. In Jeremy Eiler’s video, “Girl in Garage,” a six-year-old girl transforms a mundane urban setting through her innocence and ease into a place of wonder.
"Consumption," a kinetic sculpture by Cole Thompson, appears to be an oversized rotisserie strung with household goods. Thompson’s piece will be activated during the opening reception at 6:30 p.m. for a performance lasting approximately 5 minutes.

The studio program in the Department of Art and Art History is one of the largest and most diverse in the country, with 350 students pursuing the B.F.A. or B.A. degree in studio art. The curriculum stresses both hands-on technical development and fluency in contemporary visual art discourse. The B.F.A. degree requires 20 studio courses (60 credit hours), each consisting of half-day work sessions in fully equipped studios led by faculty artists. Time in the studio is supplemented by another 20 required academic courses in arts and sciences. Each year roughly 150 students graduate with a B.F.A. or B.A. from the Studio Division in the Department of Art and Art History.
Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions of work by students and faculty at the University
of Texas at Austin, and also facilitates workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars and collaborations.
Creative Research Laboratory is located in East Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, inside Flatbed World
