Drawing Across Disciplines
October 23 to November 6 at
Creative Research Laboratory

What is drawing? Why study it? Why teach it?
A group of faculty from different disciplines will bring together student work, their own work, and their thoughts about drawing in an innovative exhibition and panel discussion at Creative Research Laboratory at the University of Texas in Austin.
Drawing Across Disciplines will take place October 23 through November 6 at Creative Research Laboratory, with a public panel discussion on Wednesday, October 29, 6:30
to 8:30pm.
Drawing Across Disciplines is a collaboration between artists and designers in the fields of Architecture, Design, Studio Art, and Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin, including John Blood, Sarah Canright, Samantha Krukowski, Gloria Lee, Tuan Phan, Nichole Wiedemann, and Susan Whyne. Art historian Richard Shiff and moderator Cynthia Camlin will join these participating faculty members at the panel discussion.
The densely installed exhibition will encompass a range of work rarely seen in a contemporary drawing exhibition. From depictions of actual and imagined spaces to maps of human gesture and projections of hand-drawn films, the work will challenge viewers to revisit their assumptions about what drawing is and can be.
The Drawing Across Disciplines panel discussion, taking the place of an opening reception, promises to deepen one ’s understanding of the role and purpose of drawing across widely divergent practices and traditions of instruction.
Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions of work by students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, and also facilitates workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars and collaborations.
