murmur
July 12-August 9 at Creative Research Laboratory

Opening Saturday July 12, Creative Research Laboratory presents
Murmur, introducing work by eight Master of Fine Arts candidates, curated
by two graduate students, all from the Department of Art and Art History
at the University of Texas at Austin. The opening reception will take place
7 to 9 pm at the Lab, located at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
Murmur is the first of two summer exhibitions organized collaboratively
by students in the Department of Art and Art History. The artists featured
in Murmur are Meggie Chou, Tanya Eakins, Holly Fischer, Leona Scull-Hons,
Stephanie McMahon, Mark Schatz, Jade Walker and Eric Zimmerman. The exhibition
was curated by Charlotte Cousins and Amanda Douberley.
The artists featured in Murmur explore the half-spoken realm
of suggestion. Intimate in either scale or subject, their works address unresolved
personal and social territories in material forms. Abstract pieces draw the
viewer into the artists’ intuitive process, exposing the tactile manipulation
of materials. Other works capture frozen moments of time, suggesting ambiguous
and disquieting narratives, as the viewer is made to confront his or her
own expectations and assumptions.
On Saturday, July 19 at 11am, one of the artists, Leona Scull-Hons
will make breakfast at the Lab in a performance fittingly entitled Pancakes.
Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round schedule of
exhibitions of work by students and faculty at the University of Texas at
Austin, and also facilitates workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars
and collaborations.
The Lab is located at 2832 East Martin Luther King Boulevard
, located in East Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard,
inside Flatbed World Headquarters. There is ample free parking and bus service
available on Capitol Metro's route 18. The activities of the Department of
Art and Art History and the Creative Research Laboratory are free and open
to the public.
