Rise and Shine:

Cultivating Creative Minds through Art Education

December 12, 2002 - January 4, 2003 at Creative Research Laboratory

Starting December 12, Creative Research Laboratory presents in its small space the exhibition, Rise and Shine: Cultivating Creative Minds.

Through Art Education, highlighting partnerships between the University of Texas at Austin and three elementary art programs in the Austin Independent School District. Art programs at Zavala, Sanchez, and Summitt elementary schools are three of the sites where students in the Department of Art and Art History at UT apprentice with AISD art teachers and receive practical experience as art educators. By presenting art work by children in the three programs, Rise and Shine recognizes the value of visual literacy and advocates the cultivation of creative minds through art education.

An opening reception for Rise and Shine will take place on Sunday, December 15, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Creative Research Laboratory. Music for the reception is provided by the McCallum High School Guitar Ensemble. Refreshments have been provided courtesy of Texas French Bread and the Good Flow Company. Matting of artwork has provided courtesy of Davis Gallery.

Creative Research Laboratory was founded one year ago, in November 2001, as an exhibition space for the Department of Art and Art History. It is located in east Austin at 2832 East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, inside Flatbed World Headquarters. Creative Research Laboratory presents a year-round schedule of exhibitions of work by students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, and also facilitates workshops, performances, demonstrations, seminars and collaborations. All exhibitions and programs of Creative Research Laboratory are free of charge and open to the public.
