Basho's Socks
An interactive map is interactive in the sense that the way a user approaches it informs him/her about a certain way of traveling. This map informs the user about the travel of a Japanese poet, Basho in his ‘Knapsack Journey’. I chose tabi (two toed) socks as a way to signify the act of foot travel within Japanese culture. Basho’s movement crossed seasons and landscapes of impressionistic poetry. The focus of this journey was more spiritual than concrete. In essence, this interactive map allows its users to “soil” his socks with their conjured imagination.
