Can" - Individualized Instruction to Ignite Learning 1:00- 4:00 Kelli Allen and Pamela Powell, the University of Texas at Austin Presenter Bios Kelli Allen Kelli Allen teaches at the University of Texas at Austin. Her duties include working with induction and apprentice teachers. Kelli is a National Board Certified Teacher in the area of Early Adolescence Science. Kelli has fifteen years of classroom teaching experience. During that time she wrote and received several educational grants, and conducted numerous presentations to peers pertaining to classroom management, differentiated instruction, technology, outdoor classrooms, after-school programs, grant writing and science curriculum development at the local, state and national level. Kelli received the National RadioShack Teacher Award in 2004, was a National GIFT Fellow from Verizon in 2001. She was named the Outstanding Young Educator for Kansas and a Kansas Teacher of the Year Nominee in 2001. Kelli is the co-developer of the “Yes I Can” Individualized Learning System which involves implementing new science curriculum aligned with state standards with a focus on differentiated instruction and technology-enhanced curriculum to support individual learning styles. Kelli received her BS in Biology Education and MS in Biology with a grant writing emphasis from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. Breana Dacy Breana Dacy is an advanced doctoral student in Educational Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her area of specialization within Educational Psychology is in Learning, Instruction, Cognition, and Motivation. Prior to attending the University of Texas at Austin, Mrs. Dacy received her Bachelors of Arts, and Master of Arts in Teaching from Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Mrs. Dacy’s research centers on teachers’ career satisfaction, teacher attrition, and supporting teachers’ professional development needs. She has teaching experience at both elementary and post-secondary levels, as well as experience in supporting pre-service teachers in their field experiences. Mrs. Dacy currently instructs an undergraduate course in applied learning and serves as assistant coordinator for this course. Pamela Powell Pamela Powell teaches at the University of Texas at Austin for the UTeach Natural Sciences Program and for the Mathematics Department. She teaches a variety of mathematics courses; Mathematics for Elementary Majors, College Algebra, Finite Mathematics, Precalculus, Functions and Modeling, and a Mathematics Topics course for the SABIC/UT Foundation Year Program. Pamela is a certified 4 – 8 Mathematics Teacher who has taught at the middle school, high school, and community college in addition to her university teaching experience. She has mentored teachers at various grade levels for over twenty years. She currently coordinates the student teaching experience for UTeach Natural Sciences students in mathematics, science, and computer science and in the spring semester, she coordinates the UTeach France Exchange Program. She has Pamela received her BS and MEd in Mathematics Education from the University of Texas at Austin with an emphasis on incorporating technology to enhance student learning.
