In this project what I wanted to see which bridge out of the following would be more efficient: Arch Bridge, Sonny Truss, Pratt Truss, Warren Truss, Rigid Frame, and the Girder Bridge. I wanted to see which bridge will be more efficient. In other word the more weight it would hold and less weight of the bridge the better.
1) The first thing that I did was to draw the bridges that I was going to test on a 18” x 6” piece of paper.
2) Afterwards I cut out the pieces of bass wood exactly to the drawing so that it would fit the angles and afterwards I glued them together so that they would come together so that they would form a bridge.
3) Next I tested them by hanging loads of a lid from the middle of the bridge. By measuring the deflection with a deflection gage and keeping track of the weight I was able to see what was the efficiency of the bridge. I repeated this step for each bridge until they failed, I recorded in a journal.
As a result was that after all the testing the most efficient bridge was the Sony truss which was the lightest and the most efficient holding 36.62 pounds and only weighing 0.030 pounds. The Arch was the second most efficient weighing 0.035 and holding 27.94 pounds. The sonny-truss turned out to hold 1220 times its own weight will the arch was only able to hold 798times itself.
