Edward Dryden, Laredo attorney/rancher, provided a Texas refuge for the 160 member Arashiyama A troop of Japanese monkeys when it was threatened with destruction in 1972. The site, about 30 miles north of Laredo, was a former stage stop called La Moca, on the way from Laredo to San Antonio.
