MULTIMEDIA BEST PRACTICES
SECTION SYNOPSIS:

The Best Practices Homepage is the
introductory screen to the site. It begins
with a link to the site map, which is a
graphical description of the site. The
icons on the site map are linked to this
synopsis page and from here you can get to
each of the sections by clicking on the
section title. You can go directly to the
main page of each section by clicking on
the section title listed in red on the
left side of the homepage.
The homepage covers the following
information:
- The Purpose of the UT System-wide
Initiative
- Cooperating Institutions
- Goals
- Sponsor
- Categories
- Evaluation Criteria
- Target Audience

The Overview section consists of two
parts:
The first part is the Site
Map. The site map is a series
of labeled circles that identify the
various sections and subsections that make
up the Best Practices web site. The large
red circles indicate the main section
pages, the medium yellow circles indicate
the main subsections, and the small blue
circles identify the categories within
each subsection. If you click on a circle,
you will be brought to the synopsis page
where a brief description of the section
is presented. If you wish to proceed to
the section page, click on the highlighted
title. If you would prefer to return to
the site map, click on the arrow next to
the title.
The second part of the Overview section
is the Multimedia
Best Practices Section
Synopsis. This section provides
a brief textual description of each of the
sections within the web site. In addition,
each section synopsis will contain links
to the various pages within each section.
Just click on the red titles to go to the
specific page.

The Exemplars section provides links to
web sites that display an excellent
example of the "Best Practices" criteria.
The first section on this page consists of
abstracts
describing the project. Other sections of
the Exemplar page consists of matrices
that break down the various "Best
Practices" examples by:

The Evaluation page contains the
information and links for submitting
instructional multimedia to the "Best
Practices" panel of experts. The
Criteria
section lists the criteria the multimedia
projects will be evaluated on. The
Forms
section has the information links for
filling out the forms necessary for
submitting multimedia projects. The forms
are in three formats, Binhexed, PDF, and
HTML. The link for the Director of the
Center for Instructional Technologies at
UT-Austin is provided in the
Contact
Information section.

The Resources section is designed to
provide tips and tools for creating
instructional multimedia. It is broken
into three sub-sections.
The first sub-section is
Tips.
It contains links to various web sites
that offer expert advice on the creation
of multimedia products. It is broken down
into five categories:
The second sub-section is Cognitive
Strategies. This sub-section
consists of two categories. In the Evolution
of Cognitivism, we present a
short perspective on learning theory
advances to be used in multimedia
development. In the
Links to
Cognitive Strategies, information and
web links to a variety of cognitive
strategies are presented. The links
include:
It also contains information and links
on getting students to actively
process information and how to
help students to self-regulate
their learning.
The third category is Steps
to Multimedia Development. This
section is designed to help you through
the complex processes involved in creating
a multimedia project. There are six steps
covered and they are:
