MNEMONICS:

Mnemonics are artificial aids for memory for ill-structured material which is largely disconnected. Mnemonics are often used to memorize information.

Types of Mnemonics:

  • Key Word: Technique for remembering word pairs
    • Verbal: Words are used as connectives of word pairs
    • Imaginal: Connections lend themselves to imagery. Used for the description of scenes, parts, or maps
  • Chain: Technique for remembering strings or chains of items in order
    • Link: Imagery connects the first two items, another imagery connects items two and three...
    • Story: Rhyme or story is ued as an aid
    • Peg-Word: Use sequence, such as "One is a bun" to connect words
  • Method of Loci: Items to be recalled are imaginably placed in a larger image, such as a room
  • Single-Use Coding: First letters of each owrd are remembered through another word or sentence. Ex. HOMES for Great Lakes
