METAPHOR, ANALOGY AND SIMILE:

With metaphors, analogies, and similes, similar attributes are transferred to a new object or concept.

A metaphor generally has more equivalence between the known and unknown and uses "is"; analogy uses "as if"; simile uses "is like".

The figures of speech are concrete and meaningful and may lead to imagery and use emotions.

An example of metaphor in Multimedia Best Practices is entitled Enhancing the Study of Foreign Language with Technology: A CD-ROM and Companion Website for First Year French. The interface design uses graphics to compare France to Texas.
