This 2X upscale of the classic Estes Der Red Max features a balsa nosecone from BMS, a 29mm MMT, fiberglassed fins, and an internal ejection baffle. The paint job turned out fantastic! To acheive the finish I bypassed the Elmer's Fill-n-Finish and just put on three coats of Rustoleum Automotive Primer, sanding between coats. The final sanding was wet using 600 grit paper. Next came two coats of Rustoleum. The result is a wet looking mirror finish.

2/21/2004	91	1	F40-10W RMS	80	I taped a launch lug on this one so I could launch it off my Aerotech pad. The winds were a little high so the rocket snapped into the wind off the pad and headed east. The ejection delay was a little long for the altitude gained, resulting in a lawndart. The rocket was completely destroyed. The nosecone and my fiberglassed fins survived along with the motor mount so I will likely rebuild this one.
