Yet another 2X upscale of a kit that was BT55 to a BT80 based kit. I didn't quite do my homework
well enough on this one though. I failed to notice before I started this one that the nose cone is
not one of the standard available BT80 size plastic nose cones from Estes. The original one is a
BT55AC. The BT55AC was a 5.375in long Secant-Ogive as opposed to the more common Tangent-Ogive.
I suppose I will be ordering a custom one from BMS. The fins one this one were too big to be cut
from a standard sheet of basswood. I ended up having to assemble each fin from two pieces. This gave
me an excuse to try my hand at fiberglassing fins for the first time. I used .75oz fiberglass and
regular old hobby store epoxy. The results were not stellar, but acceptable. Next time I'll have to
try West Systems epoxy and 2oz. cloth.

You just can't beat BMS for service. One custom nosecose,
two day service! Anyway, here it is. I've filled the grooves and nosecone with Elmer's F&F and sanded.
It's ready for primer.

The painting is complete and I've glued on the rail buttons. While in the course of my web research
into this and other kits to clone and rescale I ran across a very helpful
website. I found the table of
scale values for available tubing sizes so useful that I've created one for
scaling the Cherokee-D.

I finally got around to applying the custom 2X decals I bought from
Tango Papa. The results are very impressive!
I'll get some photos up soon.
