Notes

- One source reports Leonard and his brothers migrated from Maryland to Kentucky in 1770-1772. - Since Leonard was the oldest of the trio of Mattingly brothers who migrated from Maryland to Kentucky, he is often referred to as "Old Leonard". - Not all sources report that Leonard's mother's name was "Sarah". - Referred to in Mattingly Genealogy circles as "Old Leonard". - One source reports that Leonard was born in 1737 - Rev. J. F. Mattingly reports that reports Leonard deceased "in 1827 at 90 years of age". - one source reports the name of the first wife as "Mary (Polly) Hayden" - C. C. Mattingly does not list the daughters Sallie and Nancy. - one source suggests that there was only one child born ca.1774, "Sarah Elizabeth (Sallie)" which could be very possible since no mention has been made of there having been twins born in 1774 and if there had been 2 children born in the same most likely they would have been twins - had a large apple orchard and made cider and brandy - of the Catholic faith - both children of Leonard and Dorothy deceased as infants - one source reports Leonard deceased in Washington County, Kentucky. - Not all sources list the child Nancy. - Reported as deceasing at age 90. - Mattingly Genealogy reports Ignatius was the youngest son of Old Leonard; how about Basil, William and Joseph? - William Mattingly reports first wife, Mary deceased "ca.1812".
