Notes

- Mattingly Genealogy reports Ignatius was the youngest son of Old Leonard, but other sources report brothers, Basil, William and Joseph as being younger. - One source reports Ignatius was born "near Leonardtown, Maryland". - One source reports this person was born in 1764 which is also the birth year of brother Leonard Jr.; to be born in the same year the brothers probably would have had to be twins, which has not been suggested by any other sources. - One source reports Ignatius at age 14 was with his entire family when it migrated westward to Kentucky which would have been ca.1785 instead of 1772 reported by other sources. - One source reports the wedding with Sarah Catherine Fowler occurred 7-22-1789 in Nelson County, Kentucky. - C.C. Mattingly reports that there were nine children born in the union, thus the "Unknown" Mattingly reported by another source probably was one of the nine children shown here. - One source reports that Sarah Catherine's father signed her wedding consent on August 23, 1789, with surety by Aaron Breeding or Brady. - One source reports that Ignatius was also married to Eleanor Ford after 12-6-1800. Eleanor was b. 2-3-1771. Another source reports Ignatius was also married to "Catherine Hardesty" "after 1810". Ignatius' will dated 6-29-1849 mentions wife "Catherine Mattingly" and it is unclear whether the wife referred to in the will was "Catherine Fowler" or "Catherine Hardesty". However, still another source mentions that Catherine Fowler deceased ca. 1839, so apparently the wife referred to in the will was Catherine Hardesty. - It is unclear if any of the children listed were born in the marriages of Ignatius to Eleanor Ford or Catherine Hardesty. - one source mentions still another daughter child "Annie Mary" born. - Not all sources report the children Charles Fowler, Jane, Nancy (Anne), and Catherine. - One source reports Ignatius deceased in 1844 at "about" 80 years of age. - Still another report (Mattingly Genealogy) is that he deceased in 1854. - Will of father provided that "If my son Ignatius Mattingly will give as much for my home as any other person, it is my will and I had rather he should have it". - 1850 US Census reported Ignatius to be 79 years of age and born in Maryland. - One source reports Ignatius deceased "ca.7-1849", while still another reports the decease as being "after 6-29-1849" in Washington County, Kentucky. - Melissa T. Alexander report Ignatius deceased before 8-22-1849, Nelson County, KY.
